Performed in-dept research on multiple additive manufacturing techniques (Fused deposition modeling (FDM), Direct Ink Writing (DIW), Multiphase Direct Ink Writing (MDIW, an in house developed 3D printing technique to use multiple materials on a single DIW nozzle), Micro-Continuous Liquid Interface Production (µ-CLIP), Stereolithography (SLA) and Laser Powder Bed Fusion (LPBF)) to produce and study advanced composites and rapid-prototyping. Published 2 research articles on topics of microprocessor cooling, micropatterning, sustainable manufacturing and polymer composite materials; used Solidworks and Creo for design, Ansys FEA to perform static analysis on the design, Jmp and Origin pro for DOE and data analysis, and Ansys Fluent and Solidworks for CFD and Thermal analysis.
-
Designed and manufactured a tube furnace lid to facilitate holding of 7 composites threads to be heat treated; used Solidworks to design the lid with appropriate GD&T to withstand thermal expansion up to 600 degree Celsius and manufactured the same using machineries like lathe and drilling. Costs 60% less than OEM products and 50% reduction in lead time.
-
Collaborated with materials & chemical engineering Ph.D. students to provide design and analysis support for their projects as a mechanical engineer using Solidworks, Creo, GD&T in additive manufacturing for design, Ansys mechanical for structural simulation of composites and multiphase flow studies of resin using Ansys fluent and Solidworks.
-
Investigated a high carbon fiber loaded FDM printable Nylon 66 composite using injection molding which led to a 5% increase in tensile strength compared to industry standard Nylon composites. And in another project, I persuaded increasing the depth of micro channel rather than the width to ensure better flow of resin during wet etching process leading to better flow characteristics without compromising the thickness of the micro channel.
-
Trained in using tools like all the above mentioned additive manufacturing techniques, CVD, SEM, TEM, AFM, XRD, Rheometer, TGA, DSC, Laser cutting, Wet Etching and Autoclave.
Jan 2022 - May 2023
Graduate Teaching Assistant
at Arizona State University, Tempe, AZ
-
Worked as a teaching aide for four subjects (Stress Analysis, Advanced Mathematical Methods for Engineers, Principles of Mechanical Design and Computational Fluid Dynamics) with two professors over the span of three semesters. My duties involved holding recitations, office hours and grading.
-
Held additional office hours around the time of exams and important homework or project submission to make sure the students get their queries clarified, due to which I gained good reputation from both students and the professors. This led to the professors wanting me to work with them for consecutive semesters as teaching aide.
Oct 2018 - Jan 2021
Mechanical design and Manufacturing Engineer
at Shri Bhalaji Ltd., Chennai, TN, India
-
Liaised with clients in the manufacturing of small-scale special purpose nanomaterials, understanding their requirements and delivering products on time.
-
Assisted on projects for mechanical and optical characterization of polymer, composites and nano materials. Used furnace, UTM, abrasion tester for mechanical analysis; SEM and UV-visible spectrometer for optical analysis.
-
Collaborated with an important Dye manufacturing client, aiming to reduce the amount of methylene blue (MB) in their residue; succeeded in reduction of 85% of MB in the residue and completed the project a month before the anticipated deadline.
Jun 2017 - Jul 2017
Mechanical Engineer - Intern
Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (AERDC), Bengaluru, KA, India.
-
Involved in the testing of HTFE 25 turbofan engine with an improved fuel atomizer design, resulting in 2% increase in specific impulse.
-
Assisted production and maintenance of GTRE GTX-35VS Kaveri engine blade using Powder bed fusion and TIG welding.
-
Studied jigs and fixtures used during production of helicopter frame and fuselage. Conducted a preliminary FMEA using SAP on the production line to improve efficiency by 15% especially on fuselage riveting and bending processes.

Thesis: Polymer/Coal Composites From Ink-Based Additive Manufacturing
This was my graduate thesis project. In this work I explored the use of liquid ink based additive manufacturing as a potential precursor for making carbon/carbon composite, an advanced composite material with high temperature applications in aerospace and automobile industries.
Hybrid 3D printing for highly efficient nanoparticle micropatterning
We used the inevitable defects in FDM 3D printing to align and pattern MXene nanoparticles. Application can vary from microprocessor cooling, thermal packaging and biomedical. My contribution to the research involve the simulation studies using computational fluid dynamics and review of the final article.
Nanoparticle Assembly: From Self‐Organization to Controlled Micropatterning for Enhanced Functionalities
A comprehensive review article on self organizing micropatterned nanoparticles via balance of force at nanoscale (van der Waals, colloidal, capillary, convection, and chemical forces) and nanoparticle‐template interactions (physical confinement, chemical functionalization, additive layer‐upon‐layer). Applications of these micropatterned nanoparticles includes structural supports, thermal exchangers, optoelectronics, microelectronics, and smart robotics. In this articles I assisted with the review and literature of the article.
